Andrzej "Klecha" Klimczuk (Gry.o2.pl): Welcome, thanks that you agree to give us answers in short interview. Let's start with a little background on the development team and tell us what kind of game are you trying to develop this time?

Katarzyna Stępień (Teyon/Destan Entertainment): Our adventure with game dev began few years ago. We started from simple kids' games. From the beginning we focus on creating an engine which allows us to make more complex and technologically advanced games. The effect of all this hard work is Destan Engine 2.0 on which Battle Rage is based. Player will be able to fight against other opponents using giant robots on various arenas. The game will be a third person shooter with beat'em up elements.
Klecha (Gry.o2.pl): Can you reveal some info about the storyline in Battle Rage?

Katarzyna Stępień (Teyon/Destan Entertainment): The storyline is set in distant future when mankind tried to colonize other planets and failed. Machines used by colonizers to create splendid space metropolies were the main cause of their collapse. Many cities were completely destroyed, only a few remained, but in very bad state, partly leveled with the ground. The ruins swarmed with various gangs and criminals, while better kept parts were populated with bored dwellers that didn't care about the situation and didn't want to rebuild the old world. For those people a mysterious company called "Corporation" creates tournament where convicts battle each other in front of TV cameras. The winner of Battle Rage tournament gets freedom and money.

Klecha (Gry.o2.pl): How did you get the idea for of Battle Rage?

Katarzyna Stępień (Teyon/Destan Entertainment): We wanted to create a shoot'em up game with giant robots as main characters. We also wanted to make it lighter, with more arcade feeling not a simulation like Mechwarrior. We thought that adding beat'em up elements would be cool too. Finally the game is going to be packed with lots of short, quick, brutal skirmishes.

Klecha (Gry.o2.pl): How many locations are there in the game?

Katarzyna Stępień (Teyon/Destan Entertainment): Each robot has an arena assigned to it. If you fight with them, you do it in their own environments. We also have a few special maps where the final battles with the most powerful enemies take place. The arenas are diversified, the player can find there a giant robots' factory, the roof of a skyscraper, a rig or even Moon.

Klecha (Gry.o2.pl): What kinds of characters will be available in Battle Rage?

Katarzyna Stępień (Teyon/Destan Entertainment): There are 2 types of characters: robots and people who control them. Robots are matched with a character of the person that pilots it. As you could read in the storyline, pilots are not ordinary people. They all are convicts fighting for freedom, money and respect, not necessary in this order. All those prizes can be achieved only by winning the tournament, so there is no place for nice, sensitive and friendly people.

Klecha (Gry.o2.pl): What kinds of options will there be for customizing your character?

Katarzyna Stępień (Teyon/Destan Entertainment): There will be a possibility of customizing robots' parameters. It will look more like in the RPG games. The player will have a limited amount of points that could be spent on upgrading the robots' abilities and efficiency of weapons. For example if the player chooses to play a well armored and slow, but more powerful robot, or the faster and quicker shooting one, he can set the parameters to do so. The same possibility will appear in the multiplayer mode. The player can tweak parameters for its own playing style which means that even identical robots won't behave the same in the battle.

Klecha (Gry.o2.pl): What are some of the weapons like in the game?

Katarzyna Stępień (Teyon/Destan Entertainment): Two unique types of weapons are assigned to each robot: ranged and melee. The ranged weapon has finite ammo that can be resupplied by ammo clips found on the map. Additionally there are few very powerful weapons like a guided missile launcher, a minigun or a heavy laser. Player can find them only on the map and they are common for all robots. They have enormous fire power, but the amount of ammo is limited and cannot be replenished. When the player shots his last bullet, the weapon disappears.

Klecha (Gry.o2.pl): Are there any Easter eggs and/or unlockable material in Battle Rage?

Katarzyna Stępień (Teyon/Destan Entertainment): If we told you what Easter eggs appear in the game, there would be no surprise :) But we can reveal that the player can unlock more powerful versions of robots for beating the final opponent in the arcade mode.

Klecha (Gry.o2.pl): What other gameplay features will make the game outstanding?

Katarzyna Stępień (Teyon/Destan Entertainment): Our game is the third person shooter in the beat'em up sauce, flavored with a pinch of RPG which is fun to play itself :) All elements that we mentioned before plus arcade feeling of the game should make the player satisfied. Like every game in this category it gives the biggest pleasure when playing multi with friends, people from all over the world.

Klecha (Gry.o2.pl): What can you tell us about Battle Rage game engine?

Katarzyna Stępień (Teyon/Destan Entertainment): The game is based on the same technology as our previous title Burn, so the technical possibilities of the engine are similar. The most important of them are physics, alpha shadows, glass/water effect, HDR, soft particle, displacement mapping, dynamic lighting & post processing and ragdolls.

Klecha (Gry.o2.pl): What are the system requirements likely to be?

Katarzyna Stępień (Teyon/Destan Entertainment): The game is going to require about 1.5GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, graphics card with DirectX 9.0 support, but on the lowest details less powerful computers should handle it.

Klecha (Gry.o2.pl): How many players can fight in multiplayer of Battle Rage?

Katarzyna Stępień (Teyon/Destan Entertainment): Players are able to fight against each other in one vs. one mode or in a team battle. Teams consist of 2 players. In one game there can be ten teams logged in, but when two of them fight, the others wait for their turn.

Klecha (Gry.o2.pl): Are there any plans to release a demo before the game goes to stores?

Katarzyna Stępień (Teyon/Destan Entertainment): When we have the final product, we will prepare a demo to show all its features and probably it will include a multiplayer mode.

Klecha (Gry.o2.pl): At this moment, how far has the development of the game progressed and what is the planned release date?

Katarzyna Stępień (Teyon/Destan Entertainment): The game code is almost finished. Now we are working on graphics and design of weapons. We have no release date yet, because we are still looking for a publisher.

Klecha (Gry.o2.pl): Finally is there anything else you wish to say about Battle Rage before we finish this interview?

Katarzyna Stępień (Teyon/Destan Entertainment): We think that we said enough about the game and now it's time for us to get to work to give players a game worth playing :) Until now games produced in Poland were not especially respected, but the quality level of Polish games is still increasing. We are sure that Polish developers will amaze the game industry more than once. We hope that we also can contribute to it :)
